| Introduction Introduction |
Seiroku Nakamura was revered in Arita as a master of the potter's wheel. This time, we would like to introduce you to a joint exhibition by a mother and daughter from Seiroku Kiln, who are carrying on the techniques of their father, Seiroku. His daughter, Emiko, is popular for her beautiful indigo geometric patterns drawn on white porcelain using washi paper dyeing techniques, while his grandson, Seigo, is a promising young ceramic artist whose unique, sharp forms have earned him numerous awards and selections in recent public exhibitions.
Actually, we had planned a solo exhibition by Seigo Nakamura at our gallery in March 2011, but the tragic Great East Japan Earthquake occurred shortly before, forcing us to postpone the exhibition. The following is the introductory text that Professor Haruzo Hayashiya kindly provided to me at that time. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce it again.
Seigo's grandfather, Seiroku, lived in Arita and dedicated his life to the pursuit of white porcelain. He was a true potter. And his grandson, following in his grandfather's footsteps, is naturally a young potter living in the present, possessing intellect, and earnestly seeking what his own artistic expression should be. Recently, he has been successfully creating circular vessels with clearly defined curved lines. Seizo Hayashiya
For our gallery, this mother-and-son exhibition by Seiroku Kiln is a long-awaited event, a request we've been making for six years. We would be delighted if you could come and see it. Shop owner Takashi Yasuda |
