| Introduction Introduction |
In January of this year, Aki Rusu received the 27th Takashimaya Art Award. A unique method using welding and cutting, incorporating the characteristic of iron to rust.<さび>This is because his aesthetic sense is highly regarded. However, the true value of being away from home isn't solely determined by that aspect. Our aim is to continuously create excitement and inspiration through new discoveries, without being bound by preconceived notions. That is why people find inspiration in works created while the artist is away. That remains true whether it's an object d'art, a molten flower vase, or a lidded container.
Her husband, metalworker Shinji Ichioka , creates kettles, spoons, tea sets, sake sets, and flower vases by hammering heated metal. The work is supported by incredibly painstaking repetition and advanced techniques. Everyday items such as spoons and kettles showcase a refined balance achieved through metalworking techniques, while the more sculptural pieces demonstrate a level of skill reminiscent of temple decorations and armor.
