| Introduction Introduction |
It's already been five years since Professor Matsunosuke Nishiyama passed away. I fondly remember the teacher's expressive, large eyes and his passionate way of speaking. After reaching middle age, the teacher devoted himself to the study and creation of tea scoops. Eventually, this became his life's work, and he traveled all over the country in search of the finest tea scoops, seeking out bamboo for tea scoops not only in Japan but also in Korea and China. His work resulted in renowned books such as "One Hundred Selected Tea Scoops" and "Making Tea Scoops," and he was hailed as the foremost tea scoop expert of his time. The teacher had held solo exhibitions of his handmade tea scoops at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi during his lifetime, but recently, among his belongings, a magnificent finished piece, which appears to have been made specifically for one of these exhibitions, was discovered. This has now led to a posthumous exhibition of his works at the Kakiden Gallery, with which he had a deep connection. I would be grateful if you would take the time to consider it.
