| Introduction Introduction |
Starting on the third day of Yayoi (Girls' Day), we will be holding the second "Yukoku" exhibition by Yasushi Bishop at our gallery. "Yūkoku" is a term he coined to describe the seals and private logos he carved himself, and refers to elegant and refined works like the one on the opposite side. I cannot help but be amazed that these are not drawings on paper, but rather seals carved into stone that fit within a few centimeters.
The first Bishop exhibition was held in the middle of summer two years ago, and thanks to Mr. Bishop's sincere personality and wonderful artwork, it was bustling with activity every day. I apologize for bringing up a personal matter, but I remember being very happy when I received orders for Yukoku (a type of wood carving) from both my tea ceremony teacher and my calligraphy teacher.
Now, at this exhibition, we will of course be accepting orders for these Yu-Koku (a type of woodblock print), and we will also be presenting stylish sets of seals bearing the names of the months, as well as paper strips and T-shirts. Although not for sale, we will also be exhibiting 70 sculptures created by Bishop since his last solo exhibition. These are lighthearted and witty works, and I'm quite pleased with them.
Bishop, who always has a smile on his face, will be at the venue every day during the exhibition, so we hope you will come and enjoy a visit.
