Introduction
Introduction

"I love the smell and texture of the earth, and my artwork begins with listening to the voice of the earth."

Sato Fumiko speaks with a gentle smile. She is a young female ceramic artist who works diligently creating iron-painted pottery in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture, a place famous for its ancient battlefields.

Ms. Sato refines high-quality clay sourced from Seto and uses bengara, a red pigment, as her material, carefully depicting the natural landscapes of the satoyama (rural landscape) of her hometown, Nagakute, by using a thick, smudged brush to create varying shades of color.

I really love the delicate, unadorned, and beautiful depictions of flowers and plants created with such confident brushstrokes. This exhibition, her first solo show at our gallery, will feature recent works of her "flower vessels."

Currently, she is an associate professor at Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts, and is very busy instructing students, but she will be at the venue every day during the exhibition period.

Please take a look.
