Introduction
Introduction

Let me introduce you to Katsuya Katou a veteran ceramic artist who continues to create pottery in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture.

Kato's pottery studio is located midway between the Chita and Atsumi Peninsulas, which surround Mikawa Bay. His kiln is named "Kirara Kiln," and "Kirara" apparently refers to the shimmering mica found in the Mikawa clay.

Mr. Kato has consistently focused on the style of kohiki-te (white slip glaze) pottery.

Kato Kohiki ware has a gentler hue with just a hint of red compared to typical Kohiki ware. The tea bowl feels smooth and comfortable in the hand, and the green of the matcha tea stands out beautifully.

This solo exhibition, my first at our gallery, will feature tea ceremony ceramics in the powder-glazed style, as well as recent works in other styles such as Iga and Iroho.

I would be grateful if you would take a look.
