Introduction
Introduction

Tamamura Emi, a storyteller—or rather, a dye artist—from Nishijin, Kyoto, who freely manipulates an infinite array of colors.

This will be my fourth solo exhibition at our gallery, and this time I will focus on the "obiage," an essential accessory for women's kimono dressing, and present beautiful obiage dyed in a hundred different colors.

I am already looking forward to the day when our gallery will be bathed in a beautiful gradient of a hundred colors. I would be delighted if you would come and see it.

Biography
Biography
Born in Fukui City in 1947. Self-taught in dyeing.
In 1983, the dyeing workshop "Atelier Yu" was established in Nishijin, Kyoto.
While inheriting the tradition of Kyoto dyeing, the artist strives to explore new possibilities in the expression of "dyeing" through their creative work.
In addition to traditional Japanese clothing such as kimonos, she also creates tapestries, interior decorations, folding screens, and fiber art sculptures.
To create original works, the entire process, from conception and design to the final stages, which is divided into more than 10 steps, is carried out consistently within the studio.
