Housen Takahashi is a ceramic artist who continues to create pottery in Kanra-machi, Gunma Prefecture, a scenic town near the World Heritage site "Tomioka Silk Mill," and is a long-time collaborator of Kakiden Gallery. Yoshinobu places the utmost importance on creating functional vessels, and this solo exhibition, his first in three years, is titled "Mukozuke Exhibition" and will showcase his latest mukozuke dishes, as well as tableware, sake vessels, and flower vases.
Mukozuke is a type of dish used in kaiseki cuisine served at a tea ceremony, where the first course, such as sashimi, is served. It is said that the name "mukozuke" comes from the fact that it is placed on the far side of the four bowls containing rice and soup, and Kyoto Kaiseki restaurant Kakiden has been using Yoshinobu's mukozuke for a long time.
Yoshinobu's tableware will add a touch of elegance to your autumn dining table. I will be presenting my latest works, including colored porcelain, underglaze blue, and red porcelain pieces, each meticulously hand-painted. | Biography Biography | In 1974, he studied tea ceremony utensils at the Kakiden Tsunohazu Kiln in Shinjuku. At the same time, he served as a pottery assistant to the late Fusenko Okochi, a connoisseur of the arts. In 1976, he became an apprentice at the Kutani Suda Seika (third generation) kiln. In 1981, I established my own kiln in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture (Tsukino Katsura Kiln). In 1992, the pottery studio was moved to Kanra Town, Gunma Prefecture, and the kiln was opened. |
