| Introduction Introduction |
The artist we're introducing today, Shuuji Fujimura , is a mid-career ceramic artist who continues to create pottery in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture. As indicated by the name of Mr. Fujimura's kiln, "Handeishi Hironaga Kiln," he has a deep connection to the renowned tea ceremony connoisseur, Mr. Handeishi Kawakita, as he was his grandson-disciple. Inheriting the spirit of Master Han-deishi, Fujimura's works specialize in tea ceremony ceramics adorned with various types of painting, including red enamel. The paintings are characterized by a free and unrestrained style, depicting a diverse range of subjects including dragons, birds, and flowers. These paintings are powerful yet gentle, and somehow they resonated deeply with me. Since the year before last, the Kawakita family's company has been managing the kiln, and they are also putting effort into preserving things like the tea room associated with Han-deishi. Isn't that wonderful? Ms. Fujimura always has a gentle smile on her face. They will be at the venue throughout the entire duration of the event. I would be grateful if you would take a look.
