Introduction
Introduction

"Neither blindly following old ways nor blindly striving for novelty."

45 years have passed since I started dyeing. The weight of the soil that gave birth to Yuzen is,

At some point, it felt like it gave me a clear direction for my creative work.

The reverence for the ancestors who supported the history that lies dormant in Kyoto has, over time, become a reflection of tradition and creativity.

It taught me about the harmony of seemingly contradictory expressions and the true meaning of refinement.

The inevitability of what needs to be expressed, the weight of not over-expressing, and a definite sense of independence,

A presence that doesn't assert itself too much, while acknowledging the sense of impending weathering inherent in threads and fabrics,

With the hope of continuing to create works that permeate every fiber with heartfelt emotion throughout my life...

I want to make a renewed effort now.

The Kakiden Gallery, returning after a two-year hiatus, will be open in the new year.

This time, we will be presenting new works including komon (small patterned fabric), dyed obi (sash), furosaki screen (folding screen for use with a tea ceremony utensil), and interior design pieces, all of which can only be expressed through hand-painted dyeing.

With your kind consideration...

Akira Tamamura

Biography
Biography
Born in Fukui City in 1947. Self-taught in dyeing.
In 1983, the dyeing workshop "Atelier Yu" was established in Nishijin, Kyoto.
While inheriting the tradition of Kyoto dyeing, the artist strives to explore new possibilities in the expression of "dyeing" through their creative work.
In addition to traditional Japanese clothing such as kimonos, she also creates tapestries, interior decorations, folding screens, and fiber art sculptures.
To create original works, the entire process, from conception and design to the final stages, is carried out consistently within the studio, encompassing more than 10 separate steps.
