| Introduction Introduction |
An exhibition of tea ceremony-themed art will be held, featuring works by Ms. Osumi and Ms. Maeda, both graduates of Tokyo University of the Arts. Mr. Osumi studied in the art department, then acquired practical skills in metalworking, and became active as a metalwork artist. He gained attention in 1987 when he was awarded the President's Prize at the Traditional Crafts Exhibition for his outstanding work featuring a cloth-pattern inlay design. Since then, he has been creating tea ceremony utensils such as water pitchers, waste water containers, and flower vases. I have highly valued his work from the beginning and often use it in tea ceremonies. Maeda needs no introduction, as he is a leading figure in contemporary polychrome ceramics, known for his unique and expressive use of color. He began making tea bowls about ten years ago, and they have gradually become popular among tea connoisseurs, earning him an extremely high reputation as tea bowls for thin tea. This is the first exhibition featuring works by two graduates of Tokyo University of the Arts, and I have high expectations for the appearance of outstanding tea ceremony utensils. Seizo Hayashiya |
| Biography Biography | □Yukie Osumi [Metalwork] Born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1945. Graduated from the Department of Art Studies, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts in 1969. He studied under Kashima Ichitani, Sekiya Shiro, and Katsura Moriyuki. 1987: 34th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, Japan Crafts Association President's Award 1991: The 1st Masahiko Katori Award 4th MOA Mokichi Okada Award of Excellence 2009: 56th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, Japan Crafts Association Holder Award Received the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon in 2010. The 17th MOA Mokichi Okada Award, MOA Museum of Art Award, Crafts Category Currently, he is a full member of the Japan Crafts Association and an emeritus professor at Tokyo Kasei University. □Masahiro Maeda [Ceramics] Born in 1948 in Kumihama-cho, Kyoto Prefecture.
