Tsukioka is a ceramic artist who has established a pottery studio in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture, but he was born in Asakusa, Tokyo. My acquaintance with him dates back to the second Tabe Museum Grand Prize "Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition," and before I knew it, 30 years had passed. In 1993, he won the grand prize at the same exhibition and became known as a leading ceramic artist in the San'in region. His style consistently utilizes the elaborate decorative techniques of neriage (marbled clay) and he challenges himself to create a wide variety of vessels. | Biography Biography | Born in 1952 in Asakusa, Tokyo, as the third son of Katsusaburo, a master of gold leaf and gold dust craftsmanship. Graduated from Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Arts High School, Interior Crafts Department in 1971. In 1972, I trained in pottery in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture. In 1982, I established my own kiln in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture, where I currently reside. In 1985, she was selected for the first time for the 2nd Tabe Museum Grand Prize "Exhibition of Art in the Tea Ceremony" (and has been selected 20 times since). 1993 (Heisei 5): 10th Tabe Museum Grand Prize, "Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition" Grand Prize Special Encouragement Award at the Tanko Biennale Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition, 1994 2010: 4th Toki City Contemporary Tea Ceremony Pottery Exhibition, TOKI Oribe Excellence Award Selected for the 4th Kikuchi Biennale in 2011 (Chō Museum of Art) Selected for the 1st Contemporary Tea Ceremony Exhibition in 2012 (Chō Museum of Art) In addition, solo exhibitions are held in various locations throughout Japan. |
