Hideo Torazawa's kiln is located in Hannō City, Saitama Prefecture, where he continues to create pottery by the banks of a clear river where fireflies dance in June. His wife handles the administrative work at the kiln, and the couple is very close. Their daughter has also started making pottery with her father. It's truly a heartwarming story. | Biography Biography | Born in Gifu Prefecture in 1935. In 1975, he built the "Hannō Kiln" in Hannō City, Saitama Prefecture, reviving Hannō ware after a 100-year hiatus. Winner of the Prime Minister's Award at the Saitama Ceramics Exhibition Fletcher International Ceramics Exhibition (New Zealand) Gold Medal Winner at the 48th Faenza International Ceramics Exhibition, 1993 (Italy) Winner of the Excellent Work Award and the Mainichi Shimbun Award at the 14th Japan Ceramics Exhibition. Numerous awards received, including at the Asahi Ceramics Exhibition, the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, and the Japan Ceramics Exhibition. |
